Washington PCT 2015: Day 36

Morning sun on the hills
Day 36 was hot and kind of uncomfortable. That said, we met some nice hikers and saw some beautiful nature! We were up and about pretty early, planning to make some miles before the sun got very high. That was a good idea, as the sun seemed more and more oppressing lately.

Hiking up from North Fork
There's the river
Crossing a rocky stream
Laura on a bridge
After some cool rocky sections, we spent most of our day hiking through forested areas that were often balmy and hot. We ran into some people banging pots and pans who had seen a bear but we had no such luck!

After many hours of hiking, we got to Rainy Pass, where I looked around quite a while for a water outlet. We continued on toward Cutthroat Pass. After 23 miles, we stopped and camped next to a couple college guys.
"Can you hear me now?"
Squirrel?!?
Frisco Peak?
Back up out of the valleys!
Our neighbors were on their very first multi-day hike and were really feeling the 5 miles they had hiked in from the pass. They asked questions and I tried not to boss them around about their choices in packing (don't pack in a bunch of fresh fruit, extra water, and a stereo unless you feel good carrying it!). Instead, I listened empathetically and answered any questions they asked. It was funny though, to feel so "experienced" when this trail was the only major hike we had done in over a decade. Anyway, we had a good time talking and shared experiences with each other.
