Washington PCT 2015: Day 34

The trail is closed!
Day 34 was something wonderful. Laura and I had a zero day, checking into a nice resort called "The Ranch". We started our day with a trip to the nearby Ranger Station. Here, we saw lot of cool exhibits about the area and its development. We also learned about the closure of the PCT south of us. This was the second time that we had narrowly missed a fire on the trail. It turned out to be basically the end of the trail for many hikers behind us in 2015. There ended up being more fires and most people had to get off the trail back at Stevens Pass.

Meanwhile, we relaxed at the ranch. It is a cool place. We stayed in a wooden cabin with a tarp roof. We came to three delicious buffet style meals and ate until we felt we would burst! We worked on puzzles, read books, sat around, took the shuttle into town, and generally relaxed like pros!

Stehekin also has a cool garden run by a member of the local community. Here we got a few things but no much because we would have to pack it out on our backs. We did however, get a few last treats from the bakery to eat on our first day back on the trail.

Our stay in Stehekin was something out of a dream! We went to bed that night feeling pretty amazing, and also dreading the hard work on the trail that awaited us the next day...
