After hiking one of the most beautiful sections of the PCT, day 12 was a day of high spirits. We discussed the amazing things we had seen and how it had felt. We were also happy because it was only about 9 miles to White Pass where we would rest and sleep in beds!

Looking back at Goat Rocks |
We sailed down the mountain, passing many people on horses and many back country fishermen. We had an early lunch looking north on a hillside near shoe lake. The we took a break on a rock we chose to name elephant rock because it really resembled an elephant. At this point, we were within sight of the ski-lifts at white pass.

This tree did not want Laura to go |
It was a long and dusty set of switchbacks down to the highway. Jesse was in some real pain due to his bad shoes and we took a few breaks. Finally, we got to the trail head. Laura's mother had chosen to come up and visit with us here and we gave her a call... she was just down the road and arrived in a few minutes. We all climbed into the car and drove to the Krackerbarrel store, got snacks and picked up our box. We checked into our room, took showers, started laundry, and drove down to Packwood to get delicious pizza and talk about the hike.

Sittin' outside our hotel room |
When we got back, Jesse decided that he was getting off the trail. He was hurting pretty bad and had taken the time he needed to figure life out. He felt he should get back and put his decisions into action. After a lot of fun time talking, folding laundry, repacking, and generally having a great time, we all 4 went to bed. Tomorrow, Laura's mom would give Jesse a ride back to the Portland area. Laura and I would continue north toward Rainier and Snoqualmie pass!
